About

  • Koteris Art is the brand name for artist Remco Koteris, a Dutch contemporary artist who combines passion, energy and color in his artworks, which can be determined as abstract expressionism. Koteris is not your average painter. A business science major, having worked successfully in the money driven world of global asset management for over 25 years, Koteris was a very unlikely artist-to-be. When his first wife died after a lingering illness, he needed some time for himself. The combination of previous events and the pandemic were overcome with therapy. It was his therapist who asked him if he would be interested in art, in painting. Although interested in art, particularly in the post WOII abstract expressionists in the US, he had never tried painting himself or even thought about creating artworks. After a brief period of trial and error he got interested and – more importantly – the painting helped him to clear his head and to be totally into the creative process. It was not long before friends and relatives started to notice that the outcome of this process was not bad at all. A new artist was born, a new name in modern art.

With at first a preference for dripping art, as seen from his art hero Jackson Pollock, Koteris let all the energy and emotions flow through his sticks or brushes onto the canvases, creating artworks and becoming a new person, balanced and full of energy to keep on creating. He also tried other styles, using brushes in a more traditional way, with the canvas not on the floor but on an easel. Over the past 5 years he has created over 120 artworks, many of which found themselves a new home and a new owner. Some of these can be seen in the @Collectors part of this website.

In 2025, he had his first big exhibition, called “Introducing…” in Rotterdam. A short movie about this show can be found at the Exhibitions area of the website. An overview of the artworks created by Koteris over the years can be found in the Artworks area of the website, the artworks are being presented in different series. “I have always been creative, also in my previous line of work. In art this is so direct and so unfiltered, it is much more satisfying than any project I have done before.”
